Two weeks have passed...

Someone asked me if we were going to stop blogging altogether now that our trip is done.

I do no want to, and yet you would think we would do a better job of keeping things up to date. It isn't that life is boring. Sure, weeding the corn for 5 hours is boring, but getting it done is great!

We will try to do better. Here is a quick list of the past two weeks:

3 swim meets
Quick trip to Ohio for Dave and Caleb to be with Mom and Dad after he had quad bypass.

Day 21: Home

What a pleasure to be home!

Here are a few stats for you:

• average price per gallon:  $3.685
• miles driven:  5,449
• gallons of gasoline consumed:  371.556
• mpg: 14.665 miles per gallon 

(don't know what happened to that 18.5 we got the first day!) I do know those days of 80+ with mad-running air were not so good for efficiency.  We sure had that Suburban weighted down.  When I fully unloaded it I hardly recognized how it looked and drove.  I had to adjust my seat to lean back since the rear of the vehicle gained inches.

Went through the pictures and videos.  Great memories for a long time!

Now we are back to getting our house in order...

Day 20: Almost Home... In St. Louis

We had a fine day on Saturday. Sure it was hot, and yes there were still "fire" to put out, but it felt a lot like " home" here at Sonya's parent's house. We come often enough that the kids are feeling like we are almost at home.






Sonya did some birthday and swimming shopping. Abi set up an etsy store. I shopvac-ed and washed/pressure washed/brushed the bugs off of the Suburban. Some of us napped. And we swapped lots of stories, since Tom and Connie just got back from 3 weeks in Japan.





Wonder what we will be coming home to tomorrow. Garden, yard, house, etc...

Day 19: OhSoFun Kansas

We looked at the map and went after the trip to St. Louis.

Is there anything to say about Kansas? We did try a short cut that we ended up bailing on an hour in due to the threat of construction.

We made it through a red box movie and probably 6 hours of new Odysseys.

Someone asked about the environment in the car. When a story or movie is on, all seems well. However, everyone seems to be hanging by a delicate thread, and if one person gets "nudged" the whole mobile goes out of whack.

One thing we were able to avoid was lots of stops... Because they wanted to get the long day done. Every stop is followed by a 15 min. Unrest-readjustment period. Those are the worst.

We were surprised by the 106 temps in Kansas... And had quickly forgotten that 90+ degree temps at night in St. Louis feel disgusting!

At any rate... So glad to be almost home! Made it here in 13 1/2 hours.

Day 18: Colorado Springs

Well, that was a fantastic drive! I think Pagosa Springs will be on our list of must return to places. It was quite beautiful... Even fantasizing what it would be like to buy some land and live there.

But we are seriously ready to go home...

We first made a run to Focus on the Family's headquarters and picked up some new listening materials for tomorrow! The little girls had a great time playing as well.

We did eat at an interesting place. The kids wanted pizza, and Billy's Old World Style Chicago Style Pizza offered Chicago deep dish. So we went, ended up with a buffet that included Italian beef, sausage, tons of pizzas, and basically a good old Italian feast. Sure beats the yogurt and bagels we had for lunch.

Off to St. Louis tomorrow.
